Self Care

It's the first week on the month again! Y'all know what that means; it's time for a personal update. This month is all about self care. Since last month was all mental health, I'm going to go over what I do to keep myself in check.

The Trifecta

I've got three main things I do for self-care and they are pretty simple; but they help me immensely. The first is reading in a good bath.

The second is taking the time to get out of the city to unplug. And The third is anything crafty that keeps my hands occupied.

Get outta town.

I get claustrophobic being in the city for too long. When I get cooped up and feel stir-crazy, I get Nick to pack up and head out to the country roads. Passed the city limits, I can already feel my shoulders unwind. Dirt roads, blaring music and fresh air always do wonders for my mental space. I don't get to do this as often as I like, but I TRY to get out once a month and stay away from technology as much as possible during this time.

A good soak.

If you've been following me for a while, you know that I am all about the LUSH products. They are natural, sustainable and great for all things curly hair. I like to soak in the tub about once a week with a good novel and leave my phone in the other room. This keeps me off of instagram and emails and forces me to relax and enjoy the experience.

Making stuff

I have amassed an impressive amount of crafting supplies and feel like I am a jack of all trades but a master of none. The craft that has been the most consistent is knitting. When I finish a project (usually a chunky sweater), I feel really accomplished. I save painting and drawing for the times when I can't put my emotions into words. Knitting keeps my hands busy while I binge watch shows on Netflix (have you checked out You yet?!), I feel like painting really pulls out my thoughts and clears my head.

All in all, it's about taking some time for yourself away from work/business/education. These three things have really helped me get out of my head and into a space where I can solve issues or even just forget about them. If you ever want to have a coffee, drink or hop into the car for a drive out to the country, let me know, I am always happy to have some company!
